The Successful Results from Implementing Taiwan Global Investment Promotion Efforts in 2017

• The 2017 Taiwan Global Investment Forum

A. Date: October 6, 2017
B. Location: Taipei International Convention Center, Conference Room 101
C. Event summary: Under the theme of “Invest in Taiwan, Drive New Growth,” roughly 600 domestic and international representatives attended the forum. The promotional booths were set up by Taipei City hall and 12 other local governments, as well as the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ (MOEA) Invest Taiwan Service Center. Additionally, during the course of the forum , the representatives from 22 manufacturers were invited to conduct Letter of Intent (LOI) signing ceremonies with MOEA Deputy Minister Kung Ming-Shin. The leading manufacturers at the forum included DEKRA, Biolegend, Canada’s Northland Power, Germany’s wpd AG, Scania, Taiwan Tokuyama, IKEA and Japan’s AKACHAN Honpo.

Distinguished speaker ROC President Tsai Ing-Wen welcomed the attendees to the “2017 Taiwan Global Investment Forum.” President Tsai invited investors from all of the world to invest in Taiwan.

The representatives from units that based in Taiwan were in attendance at the “2017 Taiwan Global Investment Forum.”

• The MOEA Japan Investment Promotion Delegation

A. Dates: July 31-August 4, 2017
B. Location: Tokyo, Japan
C. Event summary: Participants visited 10 major international companies, including semiconductor and display device maker ULVAC, electronic material supplier Shin-Etsu, electronic parts supplier TDK, international cosmetics giants Shiseido and Kao, as well as video game maker Bandai Namco. In addition, the MOEA hosted an investment seminar in Tokyo highlighting Taiwan's investment opportunities and its investment environment.

• The MOEA US-Canada Investment Promotion Delegation

A. Dates: August 8-13, 2017
B. Investment promotion areas: In Canada: Vancouver, British Columbia. In USA: Silicon Valley, California; New Jersey; Pennsylvania and New York City
C. Event summary: The delegation conducted visits to companies, including semiconductor, display equipment and materials manufacturer Applied Materials; smart technology and metallic materials firm Thermal Technology; biotech firm Janssen Pharmaceuticals and “Internet of Things” firm Supermicro. In total, the delegation visited the headquarters of 10 major foreign enterprises. During their visits, the delegation also signed LOIs and Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with four foreign firms. In addition, the delegation conducted Taiwan investment seminars in Vancouver, San Francisco and New York.

• The MOEA European Investment Promotion Delegation

A. Dates: October 14-22, 2017
B. Investment promotion areas: Basel, Switzerland; Paris, France; London, UK and Cambridge, UK.
C. Event summary: The delegation visited Novartis, one of the world’s top-three pharmaceutical companies, ARM, which is a global leader in processor architecture; and Dassault Systems, a global leader in smart devices, particularly 3D industrial design software and solutions. In total, the delegates visited the headquarters of 9 major international companies. Two LOIs/MOUs were signed with foreign enterprises. In addition, the delegation co-hosted twoTaiwan enterprise seminars in Switzerland with UK, as well as one informational gathering for overseas talents.
